Coffee Stain Pitch

BACKGROUND

4 years ago I quit my industry job of 15 years to make my own indie studio. My first game was solo developed: Exodus Borealis. It is a single player game combining city building with tower defense. It has maintained a 93% positive rating on Steam, and has over 100k USD in sales despite having no publisher and no money spent on marketing.

THE TWO MAN TEAM

For the next and more ambitious game, I brought in a friend of 20+ years. We initially meet in high school and bonded over our love of computers, LAN parties, and music. Even though I moved away, sometimes living on opposite sides of the globe, we always made time to find and play that next great co-op game. For my second game, I wanted to make a truly great co-op game. After discussing what this game could be, he quit his industry job of 12 years, and we designed The Black Pool, a 3d action co-op rogue-like.

DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

  • March 2022 – Development starts
  • June 2023 – Closed beta
  • September 2023 – Early Access launch
  • Summer 2024 – Game Release

The Black Pool has been in development for nearly 2 years.

We are self funded and are not seeking funding. To this point, we have spent no money on marketing, only doing necessary grassroots marketing to build a small but passionate community to help provide feedback as we iterate on the game on the Beta and Early Access portion of development.

All the initial designed systems have been developed. We are now adding additional systems and content based on feedback from the community. The Black Pool is targeting a summer full release. Now is the time for us to bring on a publisher to act as a Marketing Partner. While we are happy to receive feedback, and still have localization to be done as we approach launch, what we need from a publisher is exposure and marketing. This is where we hope this would make a good partnership.
